People all over the Philippines are never left out of the loop when it comes to the latest happenings in the world of sports as Balls Channel continuously showcases the best sporting events in the world. And this coming Saturday, June 29, 2013, Balls Channel will take its coverage to a whole ‘nother level with its latest show, “Gameday Weekend”.
“Gameday Weekend” was formally introduced to the media on Monday through a press conference held at the ELJ Building at the ABS-CBN Compound in Quezon City.
"'Gameday Weekend' is the natural progression from the existing weekday show called, ‘Gameday with Boom'” said Boom Gonzalez, who served as the host of the press conference.
While ‘Gameday with Boom’, which also hosted by Gonzalez, is a show that focuses on delivering sports news daily from Monday to Friday, “Gameday Weekend” will attempt to give people a more up close and personal experience with various sporting activities.
Serving as one of the main sponsors of “Gameday Weekend” is Rexona.
“The company vision is to put people first. We feel that ‘Gameday Weekend’ aligns with that goal by getting people to be more passionate, active and unafraid to try new things,” said Mar Corazo of Unilever Philippines.
Also present during the press conference was Anne Remulla, Senior Brand Manager of Rexona.
The task of influencing people to develop a more active and healthy lifestyle will fall on the show’s hosts, versatile sportscaster, Mia Cabalfin and former Ateneo Lady Eagle volleyball player, Gretchen Ho.
Cabalfin’s passion for dancing has led her to many opportunities, particularly in the field of sports. She’s hosted various sports programs such as Sports TV and Touchline as well as served as a producer for different shows on Balls Channel and Studio 23. Cabalfin’s passion for dancing has not waned as she currently teaches hip-hop and contemporary dance classes. She also teaches classes in one of newest fitness exercises to hit Manila - Plana Forma.
Known for her days as one of the most popular volleyball players in the UAAP, Ho is thankful to have been given a brand new opportunity to host her very first TV show. Armed with degrees in Management Engineering and Communication Arts and a minor in Development Management, Ho is confident that she can continue to inspire the youth through “Gameday Weekend”.
“My Mother always told me that everyone should have somebody to look up to. This is a chance for me to heed her words by being a good role model,” said Ho.
Adding an exciting twist to the show will be the special guest appearances by members of the Philippine Azkals.
“What challenges me the most about this show is the competition that we will have because the Philippine Azkals will be coming in to join us,” said Cabalfin.
Several members of the Philippine Azkals were on hand at the press conference including goalkeeper Paolo Pascual, twin brothers Marvin and Marwin Angeles, Misagh Bahadoran and Jeffrey Christiaens. Joning the Azkals was Richard “Ebong” Joson, the Head of Marketing and Public Relations for the Philippine Football Federation.
“This show is perfect because people can see the Azkals outside the international matchday. These guys love to have fun!” said Joson.
Expect to see the tandem of Mia Cabalfin and Gretchen Ho compete against the Azkals as they step out of their comfort zone and try their hand in different sports.
“Gameday Weekend” will be shown every Saturday and Sunday at 5:30 P.M. on Balls Channel via Sky Cable Channel 34 or Destiny Cable Channel 36 and on Studio 23 at 9:30 P.M. Catch the pilot episode this Saturday, June 29, 2013.
